What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is a resin based product with different ingredients added for various applications - polyester, epoxy, urethane, or a hybrid mixture.  Each offers a unique combination of desirable characteristics.  Powder coating provides excellent durability and toughness while maintaining its gloss level.  A powdered product has great corrosion and weather resistance.  It also has excellent impact and wear characteristics.

Why is Powder Coating the Smart Choice?

If you want a finer quality, longer lasting finish then you get with liquid paint, powder coating is the proper choice.  Powder Coating is an extremely attractive, durable, chemical resistant, and UV resistant coating.  Depending on the specific formulation applied, each of these properties will vary.  In general, epoxies exhibit good mechanical properties but fair poorly in direct sunlight.  Urethanes and polyesters exhibit weather ability.  Unlike most liquid coatings there are no solvents to evaporate in the powder coating process.  Powder coating is environmentally friendly since no VOC's are emitted into the air.  Consumers have grown to expect and request this quality and durability of powder coating.

What types of coatings are available?

Powder is available in a wide variety of formulations, textures, gloss levels, and colors.  Common formulations applied at Commercial  Powder Coating include: epoxy, hybrid, urethane and polyester.  Depending on the performance criteria of your specific parts, we will be happy to help you pick the proper formulation for your application.

What colors are available?

Virtually any color, texture, and gloss level can be matched.  We have over 500 colors of powder from DuPont, Cardinal, Sherwin Williams, Rohm Haas and Tiger.  Matching the color of powder coated parts to parts that were painted using traditional methods is no problem.  However, due to the process involved in manufacturing the powder resin custom colors can be expensive unless the requirement is large.  Typical lead times for custom matches can range anywhere from two to three weeks depending on market conditions.

Does Powder Coating prevent rust?

Powder Coating is durable and very long-lasting depending on its environment and how the items are used.  It is not, however, a rust prevention.  Pre-treatment and/or primer coating is required for longer coating life.  All exterior items should be primered and coated to fight corrosion.

Is Powder Coating safe for consumers such as children?

Yes.  Powder coating is used on children's toys and furniture sold every day.  It has the distinction of being one of the most environmentally and consumer friendly products on the market today.

Can galvanized metal be powder coated?

Yes.  Certain Pre-treatment or "out-gassing"  is required before coating, but both hot dip and electro galvanized materials can be powder coated.

How do I have my items powder coated?

·         Remove all plastic, rubber, wood & excess oil or grease from your items.  Parts are cured at 400 degrees.

·         Bring your items to be coated into our facility during business hours.

·         Choose the color you want from the many colors we carry in stock, or order a special color.

How much does powder coating cost?

a. Industry- we will need a product and/or a sample of what you need us to coat.  We will first help you select the powder product you need and then will issue a formal quote based on your requirements.

b. Consumers- a few items we will be able to quote over the phone, most we will need to see the product to ascertain cleaning and coating requirements.  For auto parts remember that we use sandblasting to prepare your parts for coating.  You must be sure to thoroughly clean your parts of residual sand before you use them!
